About the Spotlight
My name is Josh. I grew up in Clearfield — the kind of place where the people at the hardware store know your name and the diner remembers your order. I left for a while to go live a bigger life, working for years as a UX designer inside ad agencies, learning how brands talk to people and how good design can make a small business feel as polished as a big one.
When I came back, I saw the same Main Street I grew up on, but I also saw how hard it had become for local shops and family businesses to get noticed. A full-page postcard mailing on your own can run thousands of dollars. The Spotlight was my answer: pool the cost across a handful of neighbors, give each business its own category so nobody competes on the card, and I handle the design, printing, and mailing.
My day job is supporting individuals with autism and intellectual / developmental disabilities — work that pays mostly in gratitude and in the joy of making someone's life a little easier. The Spotlight is an extension of that same community work, with a side benefit of being a little extra income for a job I love.
At the end of the day, this is about connection. Bringing local businesses and the people they serve a little closer together — the way it used to be, and the way it still can be.
